Did you know there is no routine NHS screening programme for women to check for AAA?
A ruptured aneurysm is often fatal and a family history of aneurysms is a strong indication to have an ultrasound scan.
This silent killer can easily be found with a simple quick ultrasound scan. We can check to make sure the size is within normal limits and that the blood flow is normal.
blockage or narrowing in your lower limb arteries can present as an ache, cramping or burning feeling. This often limits your walking distance and can affect your quality of lift.
You may be having symptoms in your buttocks, thighs and/or calves depending on where the blockage is found.
This is a detailed and comprehensive assessment and scan of one leg (60 mins) or both (90 mins). The scan will begin at your naval and end at the top of your foot to include:
– a check of your aorta for blood flow and size to rule out aneurysms
– Iliac arteries, femoral arteries and popliteal arteries
– calf arteries and dorsalis pedis artery.
-Include a free ABPI assessment (blood pressure assessment of your arms and calves).
Varicose veins can often be cosmetic and never cause discomfort. To those that have pain, aching, throbbing or heaviness in their lower limbs then we can help.
Our scans will identify the source of your varicose veins so that any treatments are targeted to the root cause rather than simply treating what can be seen. Without treating the source your varicose veins are sure to recur.
We can assess one leg (60 mins) or both legs (90 mins) from groin to ankle to check your deep veins and the superficial veins.
We have a collaborative network of vascular surgeons that we can refer you to have your varicose vein surgery.
There are 2 types of stroke, a bleed on the brain (haemorrhagic) or a lack of or absence of blood supply to an area of the brain (ischaemic).
Our carotid artery ultrasound scan looks for narrowings or blockages in the major arteries (carotid and vertebral arteries) that supply the brain. We can report findings to your GP whom can use the scan findings to suggest modification to your current lifestyle and discuss medication for reducing the risk of an event.
We have many more ultrasound scans available which are more specialised but please enquire if you have questions. Some of our additional scans include:
Exercise ABPI (ankle: brachial pressure index)
Thoracic outlet syndrome
Mesenteric ischaemia
Popliteal entrapment syndrome
Iliac endofibrosis
Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves to form images of the inside of the human body. There is no radiation with ultrasound imaging. As the sound passes through the body, it bounces back to the ultrasound machine from internal structures like organs, blood vessels, soft tissue and these signals are used to form an image. Ultrasound imaging is done in real-time and can be watched on the display. Ultrasound has been used for decades and is considered a very safe imaging modality.
We encourage all our clients to have a consultation with our Consultant Clinical Scientist to make sure our service offerings meet your needs and requirements. We charge £50 for a consultation which is deducted from the scan fee if you decide to have a scan. To make a booking, you can schedule a consultation on our website or you can call 0208 882 0957.
Our Consultant Clinical Scientist is a HCPC registered health care professional with over 10 years NHS experience in Vascular ultrasound diagnostics and multiple peer reviewed publications. He graduated top of his class and worked his way up to several senior leadership roles in various NHS hospitals.
An ultrasound examination is a painless, non-invasive and considered a very safe imaging modality. There are several methods of performing the examination depending on the part of the body being examined. You may be asked to remove articles of clothing so your clinician can access the area to be scanned.
A cold wet gel will be applied to your scan to allow the sound waves to transmit through the probe into your body.
During the scan the images will be displayed on the monitor and will be interpreted and reported by your Clinician.
Once the scan is complete and you are dressed, your clinician will discuss the scan findings and provide all images and videos on a USB stick free of charge. Your clinician will also write a formal report which will be emailed to you for your records. We can also email a copy to your GP practice upon your request.
Generally, there is no complicated preparation required for ultrasound scans, although it is recommended to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, which can be easily removed if necessary. If you are having an abdominal scan, it is best to avoid fizzy drinks and caffeine a few hours before your scan.
You do not need a doctor’s referral but we are happy to accept a referral letter if there is a specific request from a healthcare professional. You are welcome to self -refer by contacting us via our website or by calling us on: 0208 882 0957.
Yes, as a private service you will have to pay for your Ultrasound Scan yourself. By doing so, you will avoid long NHS waiting times.
We ask you to limit the number of anyone accompanying you to one, you can have people waiting for you at the reception area while you are having your scan.
Your Clinician will talk you through the scan findings after your scan and will email you your formal report within 24–48 hours. In case of any emergency findings we will instruct you on the process depending on the nature of the issue.
In case of an abnormality, the findings will be discussed with you and your report will also be sent to your GP so this becomes available on your NHS record. Depending on the finding, we can suggest further private follow-up with the relevant medical specialty or ask you to see your NHS GP.
We charge a £50 consultation fee to discuss your scanning requirements with one of our Consultant Clinical Scientists. If you proceed to have an ultrasound scan, £50 is deductible from the ultrasound scan fee.
